It’s a celebration of all things aviation! All flights are cleared for takeoff this Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Bulloch County Airport! Sponsored by the BPA, First Flight offers free flights to young aviators who dare to join their expert pilots in the sky. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., event attendees can join the celebrations by experiencing the up-close thrill of takeoff, learning from skillful pilots, touring the aircraft, and taking flight!
This event is all about turning dreams into reality one ride at a time, and the sky isn’t the limit! As wide-eyed and eager kids await their chance to board these winged wonders and roll off the runway, these memories will last forever.
“First Flight – Statesboro is an event which looks to bring the thrill of aviation to the local community. While so many youth look to the skies to spot the airplane buzzing by, very few have the chance to realize that opportunity through careers in aviation or as a hobby. First Flight – Statesboro is sponsored by an Air Force combat veteran and retired Ford Motor Co. chief corporate pilot, John Ratcliff, who was bitten by the bug of aviation and now seeks to create pathways for youth throughout South Georgia. The community has shown tremendous interest in this event and we hope to expand upon these efforts in the future,” says event coordinator Beth Williams.
While accomplished flyers like John Ratcliff and local younger pilots entering the aviation field share their passion and knowledge, the event is touching for everyone involved. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or a parent to a future pilot, you’ll want to take advantage of this chance to see the sky-bound aircraft up close and discover the thrills of an aviation career.
