TMT Farms Christmas Light Display is Back!
29 years ago, Roy Thompson and his wife Deborah sparked a county-wide Christmas legacy that would live on for ages. What started with a humble light display featuring a wagon and four reindeer, an effort to spread joy in the spirit of the season, is now a coveted tradition cherished by residents of Statesboro and beyond. This year, the Thompson family is once again illuminating our holiday season at their farm in north Bulloch County, TMT Farms, and they just might make it their biggest year yet. (Have you seen all the love they’re getting on Facebook?)
The light display has since transformed into a vibrant two-mile wonderland spanning the entire farm and is considered by many Georgia’s longest and largest Christmas lights drive-thru. They welcome anyone and everyone in need of a little festive pick-me-up. The farm is open to the public and aglow every night from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, December 9 through 26. This immersive speculation is drive-through only, so pile into the car with your loved ones, grab some blankets, snacks and cocoa, roll your windows down and be sure everyone has a picture-perfect vantage point to take in the views from.
With around 30,000 cars visiting each year, the Thompsons are aware of their show’s local significance, which is why they go to great lengths to continue bringing happiness and abundance to their neighbors and fellow residents each year. And they do it purely out of the generosity of their hearts.
That’s why, since its inception, the light show has been completely free of charge. The couple only asks that visitors bring donations of food, toys or pet food to share the love. For years, the contributions that come from their light show have been so monumental they’ve stocked local food banks for nearly an entire year, and they’re relying on us to do it once again!
And, starting this year, TMT Farms will kick off things a night early, December 8, for local Nursing, Assisted Living and Group Homes to allow their residents to join in the celebration without waiting or lines. It’s just one more way the Thompsons have gone the extra mile to include everyone in the fun.
Roy’s biggest hope for the annual tradition is that everyone who stops, no matter where they come from or where they’re headed, leaves their troubles on the highway, even if just for a moment. The holidays may be stressful, but they’re also joyous in so many ways. This is one of them.
