Fashion lovers in Statesboro will have a new destination for nostalgic styles. The Archive, located at 20 S. Main St., a shop specializing in vintage streetwear apparel and authentic sneakers, is preparing to open its doors in Downtown Statesboro. Johnny McFatten and Tyler Brands want to offer a one-of-a-kind experience with a curated selection of timeless pieces.
The Archive spawned from McFatten’s love for vintage clothing, and his business partner, Tyler Brands, who sells authentic sneakers, proposed that they open a shop downtown. McFatten, who played basketball at Georgia Southern University, initially wanted to become a pro-basketball player. But, after sustaining a knee injury, he decided to turn his passion for vintage clothing into his career.
Opening the shop did not come without challenges. McFatten and Brands graduated from Georgia Southern in the spring and because of this, they had a hard time coming up with the necessary funds for the store. Despite this problem, along with a few other obstacles, these challenges have made McFatten and Brands grow and connect to become better business leaders.
McFatten has done a great deal of research on the amount of clothing sent to landfills each year and he does not want to add to that problem. The Archive aims to provide handpicked, high quality pieces that prioritize longevity and style over fast fashion trends. They hope to offer customers a wardrobe that not only reduces waste but helps elevate their personal style.
McFatten and Brands are not motivated by profit but the opportunity to bring a fresh experience to downtown Statesboro. Downtown Statesboro has never seen a shop quite like this, making The Archive a vibrant addition for local fashion enthusiasts.
“We are excited to have another retail shop on Main Street that promotes walkability in the core of our downtown,” said Allen Muldrew, The director of The Downtown Statesboro Development Authority.
The Archive will hold its grand opening on Nov. 9 and they will have B Local Catering at the opening. McFatten and Brands want to make an exciting atmosphere for locals and college students. Follow their Facebook and Instagram. Stay tuned for more updates on The Archive.
